Workshop – Emergency Preparedness and Response with Salvage Simulation

This full-day workshop introduces participants to the essential principles of emergency preparedness, response, and recovery for cultural heritage collections. Participants will learn practical strategies for planning and responding to emergencies affecting cultural property and will take part in a hands-on salvage simulation designed to strengthen emergency response skills.
Workshop – Risk Assessment: A Strategy for Managing Resources for Preventive Conservation
Instructor: Claudia Carvalho
Preventive conservation professionals must evaluate and quantify the risks affecting cultural heritage collections in order to establish sustainable preservation priorities. This workshop presents risk assessment as a practical decision-making tool, helping participants identify agents of deterioration, assess the values and vulnerabilities of collections, and prioritize actions for the effective allocation of conservation resources. Through real-world examples, participants will explore how risk-based approaches support informed choices in preventive conservation.
Manos a la Obra
The next edition of Manos a la Obra will take place at the Casa da Memória de Curitiba, in partnership with the Fundação Cultural de Curitiba. Participants will work directly with the cleaning and rehousing of architectural drawings, books, watercolors, and other large-format archival materials, including collections from architect Manoel Coelho. This hands-on volunteer activity contributes directly to the preservation of an important documentary heritage collection in the city of Curitiba.
